Week 5: Sabbath Delight - Part 1
Our Weekly Spiritual Practice: 4 HOUR SABBATH
- Select a 4 hour period for your household Sabbath this week.
- Begin and end the Sabbath with a ritual – this may be a meal, lighting a candle, reading a psalm, small meditation or reflective discussion.
- Worship & pray together during your Sabbath.
- Digital detox – during Sabbath go without all screens, social media, calls, texts, emails etc.
- Rest and Delight - Do only what is life giving, meaningful, fun and renewing.
- Discuss with your household: How could sabbath help us resist restlessness and hurry while we cultivate deeper relationships, more worship, godly-rest and Sabbath delight.
- Watch this 10 min video ‘How to unhurry – sabbath’ as a household. What new thing did you learn?
Discussion Questions
- Share your previous experience with Sabbath. Have you practiced it before?
- Review some of the Sabbath Biblical references (Gen 2:1-3, Ex 20:8-11, Mark 2:27-28, Heb 4:1-13). If the Bible is so clear on Sabbath why don’t many Christians practice it today?
- Why are the four Sabbath elements (Shabbat): Stop, Rest, Delight, Worship so powerful in creating godly-rest, spiritual growth and resistance to the culture of hurry?
- Share your plans for this week’s practice: 4 hour Sabbath with your household.
